Our last meeting will be on January 18th because of exams.
December 14, 2017
This was the last meeting before the break! We had people who volunteered at Winnipeg Harvest tell us about what they did there, and they are looking for another date to go volunteer in February. We also took a picture of the whole club for the yearbook!
December 7, 2017
The volunteering at Safeway and ALS went very well. At Safeway, they made around $210 and at ALS they decorated a lot of trees and even got a tour of the ALS house! Make sure to bring your items for Cheerboard this week because it will be our last meeting. The money from the last pizza sale will all be going to the Christmas cheerboard. Swimability still needs volunteers, so anyone interested please sign up! At the last meeting we also made holiday cards for seniors in the community!
November 30, 2017
For all those who have signed up for volunteering at Safeway, it is happening on December 5th and the ALS volunteering activity is happening December 4th. If you were signed up for one of those but couldn't make it to the last meeting, make sure to go see Mrs. McMurray for important information. We still need people to sign up for the Christmas Cheerboard, we have been assigned a family but still have empty spots for food donations. We finally have a date for going to volunteer at Winnipeg Harvest, and it is Saturday, December 9th. You would have to be there at 9:45 am and it ends at 12:00 pm. If you're going, you have to wear close-toed shoes and comfortable clothes. You would also have to find you own transportation to and from the Winnipeg Harvest. If you're interested make sure to sign up as soon as possible because there are only five spots. Make sure to come to next week's meeting because we will be decorating Christmas cards at the end! There was a survey sent out on Remind about whether or not people would be interested in Key Club sweaters so make sure to go fill it out! Swimability also really needs some more volunteers so if anyone is interested make sure to go sign up on their website.
November 23, 2017
We have a group of members that are organizing volunteering for the Winnipeg Harvest, so anyone that is interested make sure to come next meeting. You can also sign up now for the Cheerboard if you want to bring any food items. Swimability is still going on, and you can still sign up if you're interested. The last pizza sale and the Koats for Kids both went very well, thank you to everyone who helped out. People interested in volunteering for ALS or in the Safeway food drive needs to see Mrs. McMurray if they are still interested but haven't signed up. At the end of our meeting we also wrote 'You Matter' notes to hand out to people.
November 16, 2017

There are two spots for volunteering at Safeway left, so if you're interested make sure to sign up. Whoever wanted to bring in memberships, make sure to do so because they are already due. Lastly, we need a group of volunteers to help with the Christmas Cheerboard this year, so if you're interested make sure to come to the next meeting!
November 9, 2017
Volunteers for ALS can still sign up if there are spots left, because only eight people are needed. This will be happening December 4th, periods 1-3 and lunch. Volunteers for the canteen are also still needed to help sell food during the volleyball tournaments at the school. We need spots filled up on November 13, 14, 15 and 16. The time is from 3:30pm to 8:30pm. There also an event where people are able to go to Safeway and buy food to donate that is happening December 4th from 5pm to 8pm. All the sign up sheets are in Mrs. McMurray's room on the Key Club bulletin board. Koats for Kids is still needing donations of winter clothing. Any people interested in volunteering for SwimAbilitiy can just go to the website and click the volunteer button. There is an application to fill out and then submit. Snow Angels is coming up next meeting and anyone interested in taking a leadership role for the Winnipeg Harvest can go see Mrs. McMurray. At our last meeting, the members from the club have decided that the all the proceeds from our next pizza sale will be donated to the Red Cross to help the Shameless Idealists club that are also raising money for the Red Cross. The Shameless club is doing a bake sale on Tuesday to raise money, but there will also be some key club members helping out with baking. Membership forms are still being accepted, and the due date has been extended to November 9th, so make sure to get them in! There is a chance to volunteer at the school during a volleyball tournament on November 13th-16th, 2pm-8pm. The volunteers would be working in the canteen helping to sell food, if you're interested make sure to come to the next key club meetings to find out more. The Whyte Ridge Carnival is also coming up, which we help out with every year. There is still information coming but it is going to be in January this year. For whoever is interested in the Swimability program, they can go to their website and click the volunteer button. You just fill out the application and then send it in. For those wanting to volunteer at the Fort Garry Rotary Villa, fill out an application which can be found at the back of Mrs McMurray's class under the Key Club banner. After you've filled it out, drop it off at the Club from Monday to Friday, 10am-3pm.
October 19, 2017
For those wanting to volunteer at the Fort Garry Rotary Villa, the club was contacted and more information is coming. Thank you to the people who went to help out at the WAG and also to those who filled out the survey, it was a big help! Make sure to get your membership forms filled out and hand it in with $10 to Mrs McMurray to become an international member. They're being accepted until October 31st. Koats for Kids is now collecting gently used coats, hats, and mittens for winter and there is a bin located right in front of the library for those who would like to donate.
October 12, 2017
Thank you to all who organized our first pizza sale, it was a great success! We Day is also coming up and all applications should be handed in already. There is a leadership opportunity for Koats for Kids, which is an organization that collects gently used coats, hats and mittens for those in need during the winter. There are also still spots at the Fort Garry Villa to volunteer and do activities with seniors. Key Club memberships are still able to be handed in all the way until October 31st. It's a fee of $10 and becoming an official key club member makes you eligible for scholarships so make sure to become a member!
October 5, 2017
In today's meeting, we were able to see Flora (a therapy dog) for the first time this school year, and it's always exciting when we are able to see her! We started off by thanking all the volunteers for their great work at the Terry Fox Run and BBQ, and also for coming in early to help with the Breakfast of Champions. Regarding the volunteer opportunity at the WAG, only five volunteers were needed, so the first five to approach Mrs. McMurray about wanting to go will get the spots, keeping in mind that volunteers will need to find their own transportation to the WAG and back. If you were signed up but did not get a spot, we still have other opportunities, like volunteering at the Fort Garry Rotary Villa and also for the SwimAbility program (help teach swimming to disabled children). Sign up sheets for both activities are located at the back of Mrs. McMurray's classroom under the Key Club banner. Also, starting tomorrow we will be having the first pizza sale of the year. If you're wanting to become an International Key Club member, make sure to get your $10 in to Mrs. McMurray before October 31. If you become an International member, you become eligible for the Kiwanis scholarships. Make sure to also get a logging sheet to keep track of all the hours you've volunteered. Lastly, make sure to fill out the survey that was sent on Remind!
September 21, 2017
First Key Club meeting! We started with showing a power point with all the events we did last year and we showed all the pictures. We had three volunteer opportunities already, and had so many people sign up! The first volunteering opportunity was at the Terry Fox run, where Key Club organized the whole BBQ afterwards and was very fun! The next event that there was, is to volunteer at WAG, to help set up for an upcoming gala. The last volunteering chance was for volunteering at the Fort Garry Rotary Villa, helping out with meal programs and other activities for seniors.
